White Dresses for Plus Size Women

With the increasing popularity of white dresses, it may soon replace the staple little black dress in every woman’s closet. Sure every woman wants to look stylish and pretty in the clothes she puts on. What woman wouldn’t want to fill her closet with clothes that will flatter her look? Plus size women would want to have a white dress in her wardrobe as well. But they are somehow compelled with the idea that white makes one look fat and they tend to avoid the color and stick to black instead. The truth is, any color, even black, can make a woman look bigger than she is if the cut is not flattering.

In the past, being trendy was a struggle for plus size women. Trying to dress up for work, for a date, or for any day to day rendezvous, picking out something to wear , which is mostly a fun thing to do, turns out to be really overwhelming. Not anymore. If you are a plus size woman, it is now easy for you find a dress that will fit you well and flatter your figure. Size is no longer an issue if you desire to be in fashion. Plus size clothing is now everywhere, and it comes in any style you dream of. You can even find plus size dresses similar to those paraded in runways. Just take time to learn a little about your body type, and you get yourself the perfect white dress you’re been dying to have.

If you have a Pear-shaped or ‘bottom-heavy’ body, pick up white dresses in A-line or empire design at knee length. These styles help minimize hips and mid-section. White dresses with interesting necklines would help draw attention away from your lower half too. Empire line styles will also work great for you if your body weight is all carried in the middle (Apple-shaped). Halter necklines helps create balance and makes your mid-section look a lot smaller. If you have an Hourglass-shaped body, the A-line design would work for you too. V-neck or scoop-style necks would flatter your body type. But if you wanna go strapless, go ahead! You would look stunning as well. If your chubby or saggy arms bother you, wear white dresses with sleeves, or you can stick to your strapless and team it up with a lace shawl. It’s a classy way to disguise your ‘problem’. Remember, puff sleeves are a no-no. Also, accessorize — it is one good way to draw eyes away from the ‘problem’ areas.

Here are a few ideas you might wanna check out before heading to the store to pick out your white dress:

Kimberly Wyatt, Kate Hudson, Ashley Greene, Natalie Portman in White Dresses

As everyone’s always on the lookout as to what their favourite celebs would wear next, many have taken notice of how white is making a strong statement in the celebrity fashion scene. Year after year, more stars are developing a stronger liking to the hue and have taken their love for white dresses around the streets and to the popular celebrity events. Let’s take a look who wore white and where:

Let’s start off with the now popular little white dress, becoming more of a favourite than the staple LBD.

Kimberly Wyatt, Kate Hudson, Ashley Greene,Eva Longoria Parker in white dresses

Kimberly Wyatt of Pussycat Dolls (first photo) came in a funky white mini dress during Hollywood’s Hayden Panettiere’s new Candies marketing campaign party. Kate Hudson’s white mini with straps (second photo of first row) that she wore at the Dolce and Gabbana party during the 61st International Cannes Film Festival did emphasize her Barbie-like figure. Third is of Ashley Greene in her white Brian Reyes dress during “Julie & Julia” premiere in 2009. On the second row, Eva Longoria Parker came to Beso Restaurant’s (Hollywood) opening in a white frilly dress paired with a strappy heels – - – truly feminine. Halter is always flattering, and with Richel Bilson, it is even stunning. She wore a tight mini dress at the Art Party and Auction in New York and surely, had a lot of attention on her.

If anyone can remember the White Party in Los Angeles, the one put up to help raise awareness of “Malaria No More”, Cassie (third photo from second row) came with a truly mouth-dropping option. She took her liking for the little white dress a little further as it had so little fabric to it as well. But amazingly, a lot of people liked it. Vanessa Hudgen, first photo from last row, is always the great dresser that she is. Coming to  2009’s L.A. premiere of “Bandslam” in a Georges Hobeika white bubble dress, she just made more people love the color even more. For more impact, she added a statement necklace and teamed up her outfit with a pair of black T-strap sandals. Ciara showed off her nice firm arms in the white sleeveless sheer bustier Herve L. Leroux sheath dress to the “G.I. Joe The Rise of The Cobra” premiere. And never to miss people’s attention, Amanda Bynes came to the 66th Golden Global Awards in an embellished dress that sure complemented her nice skin and fresh appeal.

Natalie Portman,Hayden Panettiere, Jordana Brewster in white dresses

More White Dresses. Natalie Portman, during the 61st International Cannes Film Festival, came in a Givenchy futuristic symmetrical white dress. That was a lot of thumbs up for her choice. Hayden Panettiere (second from left) slipped on a young, fresh white dress to the Ai Spa Re-launch Party (in Beverly Hills) while Jordana Brewster looked the opposite of Hayden’s fresh look. The Herve Leger architectural white dress she paired with her criss-cross heels wasn’t that appropriate for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards night. But many claim it isn’t that bad. On 2009’s “Julie & Julia” Premiere, Amy Adams came in an elegant Roland Mouret dress in a well-chosen matching platform pumps.

Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie ,Rachel Nichols,Jennifer Love Hewitt , Mischa Barton in white dresses

And big celebrity names agree to the color as well. Both Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie wore white to the 66th Annual Golden Globed Awards. Jolie, as usual, had the same natural effortless look. But Rachel Nichols (third photo) was a sure show-stopper during 2009’s screening of “G.I. Joe The Rise of the Cobra” in L.A. in her Kauffman Franco strapless gown. Jennifer Love Hewitt opted the Grecian look with her white dress she wore to an APLA benefit party in West Hollywood while Drew Barrymore did justice to the simple but elegant look in her outfit at the “Music and Lyrics” New York Premiere. Meanwhile, Mischa Barton preferred to breathe an air of casual yet truly celebrity appeal during the Cannes Film Festival Premiere she came to. But Eva Mendens, at the CFDA Fashion Awards at New York’s Public Library was truly among the best celebs to every lay your eyes on.

celebrities in strapless designed white dresses

And an undying favourite – - – strapless designed white dresses will always be a winner. During the 66th Annual Golden Globes Awards, Eva Mendens and Miley Cyrus were both seen in a white strapless. Though both have different fashion orientation, they sure did have the fascination for the hue. Nicole Scherzinger’s bohemian-inspired flowing white maxi dress during 2009’s The White Party in L.A. is just too wonderful to miss while Anne Hathaway’s floor-length white gown with black bow detail is among the most-talked about on Hollywood’s 79th Annual Academy Awards.

White Dresses Take On Oscar and Vanity Fair

Many have noticed how white dresses are fast becoming a rising trend. For so long, the hue was confined to wedding events and not many women really look at it as a first option to wear to elaborate evening affairs. With its recent growing popularity, the celebrities themselves have jumped into the bandwagon. White evening dresses and white gowns made strong showings on the red carpet for the past years up to present. And Oscar after Oscar, white maintains to set foot and even makes its stand on the fashion scene.

Penelope Cruz's 1950’s Pierre Balmian vintage white gown56832080

Perhaps, among those who fascinated on white dresses, Penelope Cruz has the most allure for the hue. In 2009’s Oscar, “The 81st Academy Awards”, Cruz wore two gowns, both white. She arrived in an embroidered 1950’s Pierre Balmian vintage white gown (left photo) and left donned in a sexy Atelier Versace white dress. The first gown she wore was strapless design and sweetheart neckline. Its ballgown designed skirt with gold bullion embroidery did make her look like a princess that she already is. Many agree, however, that her one-sided empire waist floor-length white gown is a more elegant choice.

O’Dell’s Pamela Roland vintage-inspired white dress with trainJada’s Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 crystalled jersey white dress

But it looks like it isn’t just Cruz who had one-sided straps on her mind. Nancy O’Dell (left) and Jada Pinket-Smith went for the trend as well. O’Dell’s Pamela Roland vintage-inspired white dress with train was a sure head-turner. She kept the rest to a minimum by pairing it with a chandelier earrings, silver bangles and a matching clutch. Jada’s Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 crystalled jersey white dress was equally a stunner.

Tomei's one-shouldered Versace with pleatsGeorge’s strapless corseted gown

Marissa Tomei (left) and Melissa George (at the right) both proved how mermaid-design will always look beautiful in the world of evening gowns. Tomei opted for a one-shouldered Versace with pleats all over and a truly head-turning train. Just how mermaid designs always work, her white dress did emphasize her curves. George’s strapless corseted gown was hated by many, but it sure hugged her curves pretty well.

celebrities in white dresses

The best way to show off nice shoulders, strapless white gowns dominated the red carpet that night. Sarah Jessica Parker (leftmost) wore a Christian Diore Haute Couture that makes a truly amazing wedding gown (contrary to the black gown she wore to her own wedding). In a ballgown design in tulle silk and heavily embroidered bodice, her outfit brought out a lot of wows. Next in the lineup, Tajari Henson looked truly stunning in her Roberto Cavalli layered white dress. The statement necklace was a nice complement. Her outfit placed her among the list of that night’s best-dressed. Though Nicole Kidman (third photo) didn’t walk the red carpet, she went up on stage in a truly elegant L’Wren Scott strapless white dress with a feather-detailed skirt. Once again, her choices are unmistakable. Jessica Biel wore a floor-length Prada with a bow. Not quite a stunner, but is still a wonderful sight.

oscars after party and white dresses

And who would want to miss the Oscars after-party? Still, there’s a lot of white dresses everywhere you turn your head. Sheryl Crow (first in the lineup) wore a strapless mermaid-fit white dress somewhat similar to what Melissa George wore earlier that night. The eye-catching silky strapless outfit Elle MacPherson (second photo) wore was just so lovely and by far the best white dress during the party. Dania Ramirez preferred to keep it simple, yet she looked incredibly elegant in her white floor-length relaxed neckline dress while Julianne Moore (last photo) in her off-white empire waist was equally inviting.

This year’s Annual Oscar held in Los Angeles, California, personalities who came in white stood up among the rest and showed everyone exactly how to do Oscar.

Meryl Streep's long-sleeved Chris March white gown

A classic she always is, Meryl Streep (left-most) lived up to her being a legend by wearing a long-sleeved Chris March white gown with a deep V neckline. Streep looked so regal, yet still very foxy. Jennifer Lopez (second from the left) stunned everyone when she showed up in her Armani Prive futuristic white gown. Many loved it, others argued that the outfit weighed her down. Nonetheless, Lopes is amazing no matter what! Third in the photo (from left), Amanda Seyfried sported another Armani Prive. Lovely and celestial-looking are both descriptions that will bring justice to her look. Miley Cyrus came with a fresh appeal, as expected. In a pretty white gown, she looked as young and carefree as ever. But Cameron Diaz (second photo from the last) translated a full-grown woman look with her entirely embellished white and silver strapless gown that fell to the floor. The flowing skirt looks very comfortable and confident to wear. Diane Kruger (on the last photo) took a bold move by wearing a Chanel cream and white flapper-style dress with a black gathered collar and black details on the waist and skirt, something many are not so happy about. But she got the nod of those who love the centuries-back look.

image048

Just like the year before, white dresses made its way all the way to Vanity Fair at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood, CA. Anna Kendrick (from the left) chose to come in a little white dress with feather details while Serena Williams went for a flowing strapless empire dress and a revealing bodice. Israeli model Bar Rafaeli was a stunner as usual with her sequined white dress.

All the display of white dresses sure did send a message these past Oscars, many are looking forward to where the dress would stand on the coming awards ahead.

White Dresses in Red Carpets: Recreating the Look

How many would never miss to look forward to what the celebrities wear and where. And always, the entire time, followers would want to be as glamorous and sophisticated as the polished, perfect and confident stars who walk by the red carpet. Surely, the reason why many idolize them is because they look great. In fact, many are trying to look exactly as their favourite stars.

To look like a celebrity takes some style and grace. Gladly, many places around provide you free helpful tips on wearing your hair and putting on your make-up exactly how they do on Hollywood. The wardrobe, surprisingly, is one aspect that can be done most cheaply. Finding a similar outfit with your favourite star could be done in many local clothing shops and even online. If you are good in mix and matching, you can create a $3,000 Nicole Kidman Prada look with just over a hundred. If you want to find the most glamorous celebrity-look, it may take a little research. But red carpet photos will help you get there a bit quicker. And with a couple clicks of your mouse, you can browse through the slideshows and take your pick as to what style you want to recreate and carry on your next evening affair.

With now white dresses becoming more and more dominant in the fashion scene, how could celebrities, our fashion icons, ever miss them? With one red carpet event after another the trend never fails to make a grand appearance. Since then, more stars are wearing white into the most special evenings in Hollywood. If you are on the hunt of celebrity outfits to recreate, here’s a few of the white dresses that stood out among the list:

Jennifer Aniston's strapless evening dressTerani Couture ivory dress

When Jennifer Aniston walked into last year’s Oscars, the “81st Academy Award”, many agreed how beautiful she looks in silver and white. Made of a metallic fiber, her strapless jewelled evening dress that could very much qualify for a bridal wear, is Valentino-made. To get the very same dress, you can browse through the collection of spring 2009’s runway shows and look up the brand. But if you want to get the same look without paying for the same price tags Valentino carry, Terani Couture has a recreation of the same white dress for just $440. Though it is not the exact white and silver, the ivory version has the same overall embellished look and strapless bustline, emphasizing more of the beads on the bodice just how it graced Jennifer Aniston. With the same floor length, the dresses’ skirt has the same details. Perhaps put on some Aniston attitude in, the same carefree hairstyle and minimal make-up, you might even win Brad back yourself.

Miley's white gown by Zuhair MuradMiley's white gown on Edressme

Miley’s choice of clothes never fails to reveal her sassy personality and her love for adventure. Even for her evening gown options, the Miley-attitude is just too hard to miss. Arriving in 2009’s Oscars in a white gown by Zuhair Murad, heavily embellished and with its skirt adorned with scalloped details, she sure had a lot of heads turned at her. As expected, people again argue about her fashion choice. While others got her approval, many would insist it is a poor choice. Most opinions surround on how Miley looked like a princess and stood out. Her dress was head-turning indeed, but not in a way to overshadow her – - – always the smart girl that she is. Edressme.com, on its Hollywood dresses page, happens to have a close resemblance of Miley’s controversial white gown. Selling at $470, you can have the same Miley Cyrus grand entrance at Oscars-look. With a deep V-neckline and a similar beaded sash, it has the very exact empire-waist effect. This white dress has scalloped details on its skirt, and just like the one Miley wore, has dark edges yet blended with sequin and beads while tiered in layers the very same way. Not so sure if it’s the height, Miley’s gown looks more floor-length, but the one in Edressme could definitely pass up for floor-length. If it does show the shoes, a metallic silver strapped heel should be perfect. If you have the same young heart, you might wanna go for this dress. Besides, empire waist flatters most body types.

Kate Beckinsale's mermaid-style strapless white gown100 silk white gown by Terani Couture

The mermaid-style strapless white gown Kate Beckinsale wore to 2009’s 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards sure raked a lot of compliments with her elegant and always tasteful choice. White could be a very simple color, but she went for a silky fabric and a unique bustline to subtly bring on the attention she knows she always get. This white gown could be worn with a simple hairstyle, Beckinsale even chose to keep her hair as kept as possible so as not to contrast with the dresses’ bustline which is supposed to make the statement. The entirety of the outfit intends to show off her lovely shoulders and arms, so if you have the same assets to show off, Terani Couture made a similar 100 % silk white gown for $440. Assuming the same mermaid style, this white evening gown has the same fabric flow at the bustline to bring on the appeal and also drops all the way to the floor. Mermaid design is always the best option for those who has curves to show off. A gorgeous option in itself, you can take this dress without working so much on the jewelries, and still look wonderful.

Beyonce's strapless white evening gownBeyonce's strapless white evening gown on Edressme

Worn by Beyonce on the same 2009 Golden Globe Awards, her strapless white evening gown did show off her assets. Though she played it kinda cool with a statement necklace, people can’t help noticing. You may not have the same bust size as Beyonce, but you can enjoy the same look with the help of strapless push-ups you can find in local lingerie stores. Strapless-designed white gowns often press concern on the bust part, but there isn’t a fashion problem no one can do about. The similar strapless fully beaded gown found at Edressme.com is designed to be bra-friendly. Having the same fitted bodice, the dress is also adorned with rhinestones swirled across the hips and the eye-catching side slit to show off your long legs. The dress may be floor length, but the slit requires you to be careful on your choice of shoes – - – should be as sexy as the dress, jewelled is advised. Beyonce made quite an entrance with the dress, could be because she is who she is, or partly the back train of her white dress brought on some of the impact. If you want the same attention, the replica has the train as well. With that, you can make a pretty grand entrance, and exit even.

Christina Applegate’s sexy white dressChristina Applegate’s sexy white dress by Faviana Couture

Who wouldn’t look forward to Christina Applegate’s arrival in any red carpet event? Apart from her being a cancer survivor, she is known for her elegant dress choices. The slinky sexy white dress she had on during 2009’s Oscar Awards unveiled her healthy entirety. Not only she looks relaxed and beautiful as ever in it, it breathed so much youthfulness to the star so many people love. Faviana Couture’s version is a lot more budget-friendly though. The long ivory shirred empire waist gown that resembles very closely what Applegate wore is priced at $238 and is made of polyester. A great selection for evening affairs, it has the same gathered straps and floor-length design. Overall, this white dress could work for any women, but since empire waist is very friendly to plus sized women, it could be a great option for the more curvaceous to wear to evening formals.

56828207Terani Couture’s $420 Banded Bodice White Evening Dress

Evan Rachel Wood’s Oscar gown option did make her shine as usual. As polished and sophisticated as she always is, she chose a structured and pleated V-neck white dress with a gathered bodice and flowing design. The criss-cross bands across its bodice makes the entire gown unique and attention-worthy. Terani Couture’s $420 Banded Bodice White Evening Dress is an exact replica of Wood’s gown. Floor-length, it has the same details form the neckline, bodice, skirt, and is 100% silk. This white gown is more for the petite frames, but could work for other body types as well. An elegant choice, and something that will surely make you shine.

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive white gownTerani Couture’s floor length fully-sequined strapless white gown at Edressme.com

Anne Hathaway came to the 2009 Oscars in a flashy Armani Prive white gown. Many agree how striking and sophisticated she looked, so far from her “The Devil Wears Prada” role. You could get the same look with Terani Couture’s floor length fully-sequined strapless white gown at Edressme.com. A bit pricey at $498 though, but finding the same exquisite gown isn’t easy. Bra-friendly, it has the same embellished bust and wrap-around pattern brings the flawless finish Hathaway took to the red carpet.

More white dresses donned by celebrities in many of the red carpet events could be looked up across the internet. It may take a little effort, but if you wanna look like you favourite star, it may be worth the time looking around. Of course, if you can’t find the exact replica of the dress you are dying to wear, you can always improvise. Good imagination helps!
